Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate and to recover isobutene, by reacting an isobutene-containing hydrocarbon with water on the granulates of a strongly acidic cation exchange resin to change isobutene into t-butanol, followed by dehydration and decomposition of the resulting liquid mixture at relatively low temperature and pressures.
CONSTITUTION: The isobutene-containing hydrocarbon 2 and the water 3 are fed to the first reactor (hydration reactor) 1 and isobutene is converted into t-butanol (TBA) at 50W150°C. The resulting liquid mixture undergoes phase separation and the hydrocarbon phase is sent through the pipe 8 to the distillation columm 1. Both the flow having mainly TBA from the bottom of the distillation columm 1 and the water in the stationary tank 7 are transpferred through the pipe 13 to the distillation column 2. The condensed TBA-containing liquid is fed from the pipe 16 to the second reactor 10 and dehydrated and decomposed at 90W180°C under 1.5W15atm. Gaseous isobutene is fed from the pipe 18 to the distillation column 3 to prepare product isobutene from the top of the column 3. The fraction from the bottom of the distillation column 3 is circulated to the reactor 10, and the mixture of the unreacted TBA and water from the liquid phase part in the reactor 10 is taken out partly and circulated to the distillation column 2.
