Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove the catalyst and acid substances in the product polyolefin, to prepare high-purity product, and to prevent the corrosion of devices, by bringing crude polyolefin, obtained according to the Ziegler-Natta process, into contact with liquid ammonia.
CONSTITUTION: A crude polyolefin prepared in the presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst, e.g. a mixture of TiCl3 and triethylaluminum, in a slurry is brought into contact with liquid ammonia (L) in the presence of a hydrocarbon as a diluent used in the polymerization and an alcohol for catalyst deactivation in a non-aqueous medium, and then L and the diluent containing the catalyst residue or acid substances decomposed and extracted with L are separated by centrifugation to dry a polyolefin cake. The desired purified product is thus obtained.
