Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate m-cresol and sodium acetate, by decomposing a molecular compound formed from a cresol mixture and sodium acetate in the same reactor, provided with a filter, used for the molecular compound formation.
CONSTITUTION: The mixed cresol/dissolved in a solvent is fed to the reactor 6 filled with sodium acetate (SA) and provided with the filter 10 on the outlet side to from a molecular compound between the m-cresol and SA. After removal of unreacted cresol with the filter 10, the molecular compound remaining in the reactor 6 in heated by hot solvent 4 at 60W120°C, and decomposed into m-cresol and SA. m-Cresol is separated from SA by filtration, and distilled in the distillation column 9.
EFFECT: Simplified production process, free from transportation of solids and special equipment. Loss of SA can be prevented.
