Abstract
PURPOSE:To prepare high purity pig iron for casting at a low cost without performing of converter refining, by adding a slag forming agent containing an alkali metal carbonate as a main component to molten pig iron desiliconization-treated to dephosphorization-treat ad desulfurization-treat it. CONSTITUTION:Desiliconization-treated pig iron 10 poured into a tundish 2 from a torpedo car 1 flows through the tundish 2 and is cast into a mold 7 from an outlet at its other end. An outlet for slag 4 is installed in the upstream side of the tundish 2, a skimmer 3 in the downstream side and a feeder 6 in the middle of the both. While the molten pig iron 10 fed to an inflow part for the pig ion flows through the tundish 2, soda ash 11 is fed from a hopper 5 through a feeder 6 to the molten pig iron 10 and formed slag 12 is prevented by the skimmer 3 from flowing into the outlet port of the tundish 2 so that it is discharged from the outlet for slag 4. This prevents the slag 12 from entering the mold 7 and also results in effective performance of dephosphorization and desulfurization teatments of the molten pig iron 10.
