Abstract
PURPOSE: To remove F and phosphoric acid in waste water to low concns. and to recover them with a Ca compound fractionally and easily by converting F into a soluble F-Al complex to recover phosphoric acid selectively and decomposing the complex when F and phosphoric acid in waste water are converted into Ca salts.
CONSTITUTION: An Al compound is added to waste water and kept at a proper pH to produce a water soluble F-Al complex, thereby masking F. By adding a Ca compound to this soln., phosphoric acid is fixed as slightly soluble Ca3(PO4)2, separated, and recovered. The pH of the soln. is then adjusted to ≥9 with caustic alkali to decompose said complex, and by adding a Ca compound, slightly soluble CaF2 is deposited, separated, and recovered. Finally, the pH of the waste water is adjusted to deposit slightly water soluble Al hydroxide and a residual small amt. of F, which are then separated and removed. The Al hydroxide is used again.
