Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the captioned foam of high heat resistance and useful as a heat insulating material for the roof or the like by a method wherein an aromatic polyester melt containing foaming material is extruded from a die and treated so that it shows a degree of crystallinity higher than a specific value. CONSTITUTION:After an aromatic polyester melt (examples: polyethylene terephthalate and the like) containing 1-50% by weight of a material (examples: dichlorodifluoromethane etc.) having boiling points 90 deg.C or lower at the ordinary pressure and having a foaming capacity and melting viscosity higher than >=8,000 poises at by 15 deg.C or more higher temp. than the melting point is extruded from a die, it is treated so that the crystallinity exceeds 30% of the final crystalinity at the temperature showing the maximum crystallization speed to obtain a stringy aromatic polyester foam continuous body having sectional areas 1-200mm.<2>. This stringy foam is excellent in heat resist?ance and useful as a heat insulating material for the concrete roof, and the like.
