PURPOSE:To manufacture the chips, which have excellent transparency and contain little aldehyde, by melting and extruding polyethylene terephthalate, the degree of crystallinity thereof is 40-70% and aldehyde content thereof is 5ppm or lower, within a specified retention time at 290 deg.C or lower. CONSTITUTION:Polyethylene terephthalate is solid phase-polymerized at a temperature, which is higher than 190 deg.C and lower than the melting point, in an inert gas current, and the degree of its crystallinity is made 40-70% and its aldehyde content 5ppm or lower. Said crystallized polyethylene terephthalate is supplied to a vent type extruding machine, and said polymer is melted and extruded in a chippy shape at a temperature, which is higher than the melting point and lower than 290 deg.C, for a retention time satisfying a formula. Transparency is inferior in the polyethylene terephthalate, the degree of crystallinity thereof is 70% or lower, and the decrease of acetoaldehyde is insufficient in the polyethylene terephthalate, the degree of crystallinity thereof is 40% or lower or thereof exceeds an upper limit. The chips are particularly suitable for a blow molding material for a food vessel, etc.
