Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable a uniformly expanded foam to be obtd., by a method wherein a polyfunctional compd. is blended with a polyethylene compsn. as a starting material when a high-expansion polyethylene foam is produced which is used for an insulating layer of a coaxial cable for high frequency signal transmission.
CONSTITUTION: A polyfunctional compd. (in an amount of 0.5W5pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. of a polyethylene such as low-density polyethylene, high-density poleethylene or an ethylene-propylene rubber) is blended with a polyethylene composition (which is a starting material for use in the production of a high-expansion poleethylene foam) to produce the desired compsn. Examples of said polyfunctional compd. are those having a plurality of functional groups such as allyl ester and cyanurate ester in the molecular structure. Diallyl phthalate and triallyl cyanurate are preferred. By using this compd., a polyethylene melt having a moderate viscosity can be obtd., uniform expansion can be conducted, and there can be obtd. a foam having good moldability.
