Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve response performance, coloring performance, etc., and perform multicolor displaying by forming the electrochromic layer of a titled display device of a high polymer resin added with plural electrochromic active molecules. CONSTITUTION:In a titled device sealed with electrolyte 4 between a display substrate of the construction wherein transparent electrodes 2 and electrochromic layers 3 are formed successively on a transparent substrate 1 of transparent glass or the like and a counter substrate 7 installed opposite to said display substrate, the layer 3 is formed of a high polymer resin added with at least >=2 kinds of electrochromic active dye molecules. For example, in the case when it is formed of the polystyrene added with morpholinopyrazoline deriv. coloring to red when oxidized and viologen coloring to blue when reduced, if +2V voltage is applied to the electrodes 2 with respect to a counter electrode 6, the layer colors to red, and if -2V is applied, it colors to blue, hence, multicolor displaying is accomplished.
