Abstract

PURPOSE:To make possible multicolor displaying and improve contrast by combining the first electrochromic (EC) layer which colors in an oxidized state and the second EC layer which colors in a reduced state. CONSTITUTION:A metal oxide of a low oxidation number which colors in an oxidized state such as V2O3, WO2 or the like is evaporated on indium oxide glass to form the first EC layer. On the other hand, a metal oxide which colors in a reduced state such as WO3, U2O5 or the like is evaporated on another indium oxide glass to form the second EC layer. On the other hand, a metal oxide which colors in a reduced state such as WO3, U2O5 or the like is evaporated on another indium oxide gloss to form the second EC layer. Next, the abovementioned both glasses (substrates) are assembled by way of a spacer and electrolyte is sealed therebetween to form the electro-coloring display element. The abovementioned element is let to make different coloring displays when applied with voltage.
