Abstract
PURPOSE: To activate the inactivated catalyst effectively by causing the exchange reaction of hydrogen isotopes and oxygen-hydrogen reaction to take place concurrently in the catalyst layer when regenerating and reactivating the catalyst used in the separation of hydrogen isotopes from water.
CONSTITUTION: When the activity of a hydrophobic catalyst being used in the separation and recovery of hydrogen isotopes from water is lowered due to the covering of water on its surface, oxygen gas is supplied from an oxygen supplyer 11 into the catalyst layer 8 in such a way as to cause the exchange reaction of hydrogen isotopes and oxygen-hydrogen reactions to take place concurrently. Then, the temperature of the catalyst layer 8 is raised by the heat of reactions and water droplets inside the fine pores of the catalyst are evaporated to reactivate the catalyst. Thus, the inactivated catalyst can be effectively reactivated without the need to stop the apparatus.
