Abstract
PURPOSE:To measure linear speed of a coil accurately in measurement of uncoiling speed of a coil of material of a cold mill by using rotation speed of a pay-off reel and diameter of the coil measured by a laser range finder. CONSTITUTION:In the figure, 1 is a pay-off reel that fixes a material a coil 2 and a motor M works as a generator to generate tension. A pulse generator 4 is linked with a rotating shaft to output a speed pulse 4, and 3a, 3b are laser beam range finders installed to face to each other on both sides of the reel 1. The optic axes of the two beams are the same and perpendicular to the surface of the coil. Regarding the coil as a true circle, the radius (r) of the coil is determined by an arithmetic device 5 by taking an average of the distances S1, S2 between each range finder and the surface of the coil. The linear speed V=2pirN is calculated from radius (r) and the number of rotation N determined from the speed pulse P.
