NEW MATERIAL:An anilinobenzyl ester expressed by formula I [R1 is H or cyano; R2 is isobutyl of formula II (R3 is naphthyl, thienyl, etc.) or cyclopropyl substituted by Cl, methyl, etc.].
USE: An insecticide and acaricide having insecticidal and acricidal activity against various injurious insects and tetranychids of plants, and particularly powerful insecticidal activity against main injurious insects, e.g. green rice leafhopper, of paddy-rice plants with low toxicity to fishes.
PROCESS: A carboxylic acid expressed by the formula R2COOH or a reactive derivative thereof, e.g. an acid chloride, is reacted with a novel anilinobenzyl alcohol expressed by formula III or a reactive derivative thereof, e.g. a chloride, to give the compound expressed by formula I. The novel compound expressed by formula III is obtained by reducing an aldehyde expressed by formula VI obtained from compounds expressed by formulas IV and V or adding HCN to the aldehyde expressed by formula VI.
