Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a drive system which causes no pollution and whose efficiency is high, by assembling both a steam drive unit into which steam produced by a steam boiler is introduced and an electric drive unit on the identical drive shaft of a vehicle and by selectively or collectively actuating both the drive units.
CONSTITUTION: For initial running, an electric motor 10 is actuated by electricity from the storage battery 9 of an electric drive unit B to enable a vehicle to run immediately. During the initial running, a steam boiler 1 is operated to generate steam. When the quantity and pressure of the generated steam have become enough for running, the electric drive unit B is changed for a steam deive unit A. At that time, the steam generated by the boiler 1 is temporarily stored in a steam tank 2 and then conducted to a steam turbine 4 through a steam control chamber 3 to rotate a drive shaft 6. At the same time, some of the steam is conducted to a steam- driven generator 8 to produce electric power to charge the storage battery 9.
