Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent any increase in the internal resistance of a silver oxide battery caused during the preservation by forming an argentous oxide layer and a silver layer, in that order, over the periphery of a silver oxide positive electrode by reduction, subjecting the separator-silver layer to a water-repellent treatment before the positive electrode is pressed to be made dense, and placing the electrode in a positive can. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode body 1 is prepared by forming an argentous oxide layer 3 and a silver layer 4, in that order, over the periphery of a body 2, which is prepared by pressing and molding silver oxide, by reduction. At least the separator-side silver layer 4 is subjected to a water-repellent treatment, and the body 1 is pressed to be made dense before it is placed in a positive can 5. The above water-repellent treatment is carried out by either immersing the body 1 in a water repellent such as styrene, silicone or a fluorine-systme high molecular compound, or coating the body 1 with the water repellent. The pressure applied to the silver layer 4 should be about the same as that used in forming the silver oxide molded body 2, in order to make the density of the silver layer 4 high without causing any change in the porosity of the body 2. Owing to the above constitution, the reoxidation of the silver layer 4 by silver oxide is suppressed since electrolyte is restricted to touch and diffuse into the silver layer 4. Consequently, any increase in the internal resistance caused during the preservation of a silver oxide battery, which doesn't provide any double discharge, can be prevented.
