PURPOSE:To lower trigger voltage and eliminate the need for any trigger transformer and the like by using an element provided with 3 poles in a gas tube for control. CONSTITUTION:When the electric charge of a capacitor 2 is discharged through a trigger coil 4 by turning on a switch 1 for light emission, high voltage is generated in the secondary side 3' of the coil 4 and a main electric discharge tube 4 is excited. Then, a main electric discharge capacitor 5 starts electric discharge through the tube 4. A photodetector 8 is conducted by reflected light to supply charge to an integration circuit. When required quantity of light is attained, an SCR goes on to generate voltage across a resistance R1. The voltage across the R1 is applied to the electrodes of a tube for control, thereby performing temporary discharge. The charge of the main discharge capacitor is discharged by this discharge. Thereby, the light emission of the tube 4 is stopped. With such constitution, the trigger voltage is lowered and the need for trigger transformers and the like is eliminated.
