Abstract
PURPOSE: To form a squishing flow throughout a wide range in a combustion chamber and improve the combustion, by providing a combustion chamber in the top part of a piston, opening guide passages to a bottom part of the combustion chamber and guiding the squishing flow to the bottom part of the combustion chamber at a compression stroke through said guide passages.
CONSTITUTION: If a piston rises toward the side of its top dead center at a compression stroke, a compressed mixture between a top surface 2a of the piston 2 and a cylinder head 3 mostly flows to the opening part side of a combustion chamber 4 between the surfaces 2a, 3a. Then the mixture changes its direction toward the bottom part side of the combustion chamber 4 to flow into the combustion chamber 4 and form a squishing flow as shown by an arrow mark A in the vicinity of the opening part of the combustion chamber 4. Simultaneously, a residual mixture flows out into the bottom side of the combustion chamber 4 through holes 6 and guide passages 7, tangentially extending to the periphery of the combustion chamber 4, and then flows toward the center of the combustion chamber 4 along the peripheral direction and circular arc surface of an annular groove 5 of the combustion chamber 4 to form a squishing flow as shown by an arrow mark B, thus the combustion succeeding thereto can be efficiently performed.
