Abstract

PURPOSE:To speed copying by composing a playback and a recording head of plural head elements arranged at right angles to the running direction of a recording medium and by shifting the heads by single pitch on tracks respectively each time one run is completed. CONSTITUTION:A playback head 21 in a main reproducer 11 and a recording head 31 in a copying recorder 12 are composed of head elements H1-H10, and H'1- H'10 respectively and arrayed in the widthwise directions of tapes 22 and 32. Pitches (h) and (h') of those elements H1-H10, and H'1-H'10 are integer times as great as recording track pitches (t) and (t'). Playback signals from tracks on a master tape 22 in the main reproducer 11 are inputted to the copying recorder 12 via an amplifier 13 to be recorded on a recording medium 32. Each time one run of the recording medium 32 is completed, the playback head 21 and recording head 31 are shifted by (t) and (t'). Thus, copying is adhieved in a short time.
