CONSTITUTION:One-line components of the character code to be printed, the pattern conversion code indicating horizontal writing or vertical writing, and a status signal from a computer are received by an interface part 21 and the received character code or the like are supplied to a control part 22. A storage part 23 is controlled by this control part 22 to store one-line components of the pattern, and a carriage driving signal is transmitted to a carriage feeding driver 25. The picture signal of the character pattern or the picture signal of the character pattern rotated at 90 deg. is read out from the storage part 23 and is supplied to the driver 24 to drive a printing head 11.
