Abstract

PURPOSE: To minimize the extension of shrinkage cavities by delaying the solidification of feeder head portion and, at the result, to reduce the amount of feeder head, by applying an electromagnetic rabbling to a portion corresponding to the feeder head portion when castings are performed.
CONSTITUTION: An electromagnetic rabbling machine 13 is installed at a feeder head portion 12 or between the feeder head portion 12 and the main body portion 11, so that the machine may surround the periphery of a steel ingot or a casting. Then, the solidification of the feeder head portion 12 is delayed by an electromagnetic rabbling action of this electromagnetic rabbling machine 13 when a casting is performed. Diagrams A, B, and C show the case of weak rabbling by the electromagnetic rabbling machine 13, the case of moderate rabbling, and the case of strong rabbling, respectively.
