Abstract

PURPOSE:To evaluate the sensitively of a stainless steel accurately by determining the ratio between the maximum current value in the anode polarization and the maximum current value in the reverse sweep polarization having the steel contacting an acid solution. CONSTITUTION:An automatic controller 1 handles the pretreatment of the surface of a stainless steeel 7, the setting of anode polarization starting voltage, the voltage application control and the current value measurement control in the anode polarization, the voltage application control and the current value measurement control in the reverse sweep polarization and the recording and calculation of meaurement data. Under the control of the automatic controller 1, the feeding of varied voltages to an electrolytic cell 6 and the measurement of the current value are performed with potentiostat and a voltage applying device 5. The device 5 comprises an anode polarization potential application means of applying a voltage positively to cause an anode polarization in the stainless steel 7, a reverse sweep polarization potential application means of applying a voltage negatively to cause a reverse sweep polarization therein and a current value measuring means. The ratio between the maximum current vlue in the anode polarization and the maximum current value in the reverse sweep polarization is recorded on a recording section 2 of the automatic controller 1.
