Abstract

Measurement of the dynamic potential at the electrode surface of an electrochemical bath involves interrupting the current flow through the bath and then directly after this measuring the electromotive force between the electrodes and a probe immersed in the bath. The interruption and reconnection of the circuit through the bath is carried out at a constant frequency, each being for a constant time period. The measurement of the electromotive force is carried out for a fixed period. The repeated information obtd. from the measurement of the electromotive force is used to control the current in the bath. This controls the electro-motive force and consequently the current density within close limits. For measuring the dynamic potential in electrochemical baths so that the polarisation of the electrodes can be determined. Laboratory methods for doing this are known but the method claimed is also applicable on an industrial scale.
