Abstract

PURPOSE:To accomplish an accurate measurement regardless of slight alteration of measuring conditions by measuring variations in the length of a test piece evenly heated at a constant heating rate after the volume thereof is calculated from the weight and the true specific weight of coal finely crushed. CONSTITUTION:First, blended coal to be measured is finely crushed and compressed into a bar. The volume Vc of a test piece 3 is determined from the weight w thereof and the true specific weight rho. Then, the test piece 3 is placed into a measuring tubular vessel 1 whose inner diameter d is slightly larger than the outer diameter of the test piece and heated evenly at a constant heating rate. Consequently, it is expanded to the state 5. At this point, the length lD of the test piece 5 is measured to find an expansion coefficient by the equation. Unlike the conventional dilatometer only depending on the displacement of the piston, this ensures a stable measured value free from alteration of the charging bulk density.
