Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled substance, by subjecting a solution containing glutamin acid, cysteine and glycine to the action of microorganism, belonging to the genus Enterobacter, Proteus, Bacillus, etc., and capable of producing glutathione from the three substances.
CONSTITUTION: A microorganism, e.g. Enterobacter aerogenes, Proteus mirabilis or Bacillus subtilis, belonging to the genus, Enterobacter, Proteus, Pseudomonas, Erwinia or Bacillus, and having the ability to produce glutathione from glutamic acid, cysteine and glycine is cultivated to obtain the microbial cell or a treated microbial cell thereof. The microbial cell is then added to an aqueous solution containing the L-glutamic acid, L-cysteine and glycine and reacted to produce the glutathione, which is then isolated and purified by the conventional method.
