CONSTITUTION:In a character pattern recognition device, in case when it is impossible to make a definite decision as a specific character, as a result of recognition, a selected character which has been obtained in the recognition process is sent to a selected character generation part 7, it is inserted into the position having the meaning of a passage where the recognition has become not available, in order of the degree of similarity, and a selected sentence is generated, is inputted to a word extraction part 1, and is collated with a word directionary 4. In case of coincidence, it is sent to a grammar check part 3, is checked by referring to a grammar dictionary 5, whether the selected sentence which has been generated according to the degree of similarity has an error or not is decided by a decision part 6, and it is sent out as a correct solution character.
