PURPOSE:To reflect the peculiar way of the same person to enhance the recognition, precision by obtaining the deviation between features of standard characters and those of hand-written characters certain number of times and calculating the average value to correct features of standard characters. CONSTITUTION:Information of hand-written characters is inputted to an input part 1 and is subjected to the preprocessing in a preprocessing part 2 and has features extracted in a feature extracting part 3, and these features are held in an unknown pattern feature holding part 4. These features are processed as vector. A distance operator 9 calculates the distance between data of the feature holding part 4 and features of standard characters, which are transmitted successively from a standard feature holding part 6, to detect the minimum distance in a minimum distance detector 10, and standard characters for detection of the minimum distance are discriminated as hand-wirtten characters, and results are held in a discrimination result holding part 8. The minimum distance is stored in a displacement storage part 12 through a displacement detector 11; and when a certain number of minimum distances is stored for the same characters, an average displacement is operated in an average displacement operator 13, and the correction of standard features of a dictionary 16 is controlled by a dictionary correction controlling part 14. Thus, the peculiar way of the same person is reflected, and individual dictionaries are not required, and characters are recognized easily with a high precision.
