Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate firing in a cylinder through the application of pressure produced by air pressure except a natural fall due to a dead weight of a piston, by a method wherein an air cushion chamber above the piston is previously filled with high-pressure air at a starting time.
CONSTITUTION: A piston 8 is raised in a cylinder 7a. An exhaust valve 37 is pressed downward to open, and air in an air cushion chamber 9 is bled to facilitate raising of the piston 8. With a knob 35 depressed, a starting valve 31 is pressed downward, and high-pressure air flows into the air cushion chamber 9 through a pipe 33. If high-pressure air is sufficiently fed to the chamber 9, the valve 31 closes, and with a lever 21 rotated downward, the piston 8 drops at the inside of the cylinder 7a. The falling insulates and compresses a combustion chamber 10, and fuel, jetted into the chamber 10 through a nozzle 11, is fired for combustion. As a result, the piston 8 is raised at the inside of the cylinder 7a. The chamber 9 is increased in the pressure again, and the cushion action changes the piston into a falling motion.
