Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform a stable feed of fuel to each of the cylinders, by injecting the fuel at every 120° of crank angle and setting the timing of injection start within a range 15° both before and after the top dead center of each cylinder.
CONSTITUTION: As considered intake actions of cylinders #5, #4 in a range 15° each before and after the top dead center of the cylinder #5, an intake valve of the cylinder #5, being in a state immediately after opening, causes a rise-up of air intake flow to retard, then the actual intake action can be understood to start at in the vicinity of 15° after the top dead center. On the other hand, though the cylinder #4 closes its valve at the top dead center of the cylinder #5, a lift of the valve is small immediately before its closing further with the charge of intake air almost in a state of completion, then the intake action is almost completed actually before the closing of the valve. On the contrary, a cylinder #1 is in a state of strong intake action because speed of its intake air flow is in a state immediately before reaching a maximum. In this way, if injection of fuel is started at an angle within a range 15° each before and after the top dead center of the cylinder #5, most of the fuel can be fed to the cylinder #1.
