PURPOSE:To enhance a recording sensitivity by a method wherein a selfoxidizable compound and a fine powder of metal are incorporated into a recording layer, and the melting and solidification of the fine powder is accelerated by the combustion heat of the selfoxidizable compound. CONSTITUTION:By a solid metal powder consisting of Ni, Au, Ag, Al or other metal and having an average particle size of 50nm and a high light-absorbing power approximate to that of a black body, the recording light is effectively absorbed and is converted into heat, whereby melting and solidificaion are brought about in a binder. A nitric ester, a nitro compound or a nitramine, particularly nitrocellulose is added to the metal powder as an selfoxidizable compound. When the recording light is absorbed by the fine metal powder and the temperature of the part irradiated with the light is raised to a predetermined temperature, the selfoxidizable compound undergoes an oxidative decomposition, is burned and is evaporated. Accordingly, it becomes possible to record and reproduce images with an extremely high contrast.
