Abstract

PURPOSE: To control the atomization of fuel lest the fuel should diffuse into an inactive gas region in the main flow of scavenged gas, by placing a scavenging passage near a crankcase, using a movable sleive valve to open and close the scavenging passage and providing a fuel injection nozzle and an igniter in a cylinder head.
CONSTITUTION: Openings 3, 3' are provided in a sleeve valve 2 loosely fitted in the lower part of a cylinder 1. The valve 2 functions to change the degree of opening of passages between a crankcase 6 and scavenging passages 5, 5'. A new mixture, which flows into the scavenging passages 5, 5' out of the crankcase 6 when a small amount of mixture is scavenged as an engine is under partial load, is made into a retarded uniform pattern as the new mixture collides against the outsides 8, 8' of the scavenging passages 5, 5' and flows to scavenging ports 9, 9'. The new mixture flows relatively moderately into a cylinder 10 so that the new mixture does not rush into an inactive gas atmosphere in the cylinder 10 and is not diffused and diluted and much turbulence and heat loss are not caused. A laminar pattern is thus made.
