Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A pyrazole derviative of formula I (R1 is H or lower alkyl; R2 is lowe alkyl or lower alkenyl; X is halogen, nitro, lower alkyl or lower alkoxyl; n is 0 or an integer 1W3; X may be the same or different when n is 2 or 3; Z is H or CH2-A; A is lower alkoxycarbonyl, lower alkyl, phenyl or benzoyl) or a salt or an organic acid ester of the compound in which Z is H.
USE: A herbicide effective against perennial and gramineous weeds in paddy fields and particularly weeds of the family Caryophyllaceae in plowed fields with low toxicity.
PROCESS: A 4-phenylthiopyrazolone derivative of formula II is oxidized with an oxidizing agent, e.g., hydrogen peroxide, to give the compound of formula I in which Z is H.
