Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:The optically active tetrahydronaphthalene derivative of formulaI(R is H or alkyl).
EXAMPLE: (S)-1,1,3,4,4,6-Hexamethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene.
USE: An intermediate raw material of pharmaceuticals, perfumes, etc. Perfumes having new value can be obtained by the use of optically active isomers.
PROCESS: The optically active or racemic tetrahydronaphthalene derivative of formula III can be prepared by the hydrogenative decomposition of the optically active or racemic tetrahydronaphthalene derivative halide of formula II (X is halogen) using preferably a metal hydride or a Pd catalyst.
