Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate the press formation of the partition plates of a divergent muffler for a motorcycle or the like, by placing the partition plates in the outer cylinder of the muffler obliquely to the center line of the outer cylinder and providing a plurality of baffle pipes which extend through the partition plates perpendicularly thereto. CONSTITUTION:The interior of the outer cylinder 1 of a divergent cylindrical muffler is divided into plural silencing chambers by plural partition plates 2, each of which is formed with a peripheral flange so that the partition plate is laid perpendicularly to one sectional side of the outer cylinder 1. The partition plates 2 are provided with through holes which extend perpendicularly to the plates and are fitted with baffle pipes 4. Each partition plate 2 is placed so that it extends perpendicularly to one sectional side of the outer cylinder 1 but obliquely to its center line. As a result, the baffle pipes 4 extend in parallel with one sectional side of the outer cylinder 1. According to this constitution, the length of the baffler pipes 4 can be increased and each partition plate 2 having the through hole can be manufactured by only one time of press formation to reduce the production cost.
