Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the size of a cavity resonator small, by inputting a microwave signal from a quartz oscillator to the coaxial cavity resonator and flowing a current for the generation of magnetostatic field. CONSTITUTION:An atomic oscillator consits of a voltage-controlled quartz oscillator 1, a frequency synthesizer 2, and an optical micro-wave section 3. An output S1 of the oscillator 1 is applied to the frequency synthesizer 2 and the output S2 is applied to a multiplier 4 of the optical microwave section 3. The section 3 is provided with a lamp cell 6, a coaxial cavity resonator 9, a resonance cell 10, a photodetector 11 and an amplifier 12, an output S3 of the multiplier 4 is applied to the coaxial cavity resonator 9 and a DC current I for the generation of magnetostatic field flows to an inner conductor 17. When the frequency of an input microwave signal S3 is coincident with the resonance frequency of the cavity resonator, the detected output of the photodetector 11 is decreased, the detected signal S4 is defined as a control signal S5 via an amplifier 12 and fed back to the voltage controlled quartz oscillator 1.
