Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the durability of specific ring members by a method wherein the split surfaces of the ring members arranged between the outer periphery of the bearing and a bearing housing are formed at a position where each of the ring members is subject to the minimum force. CONSTITUTION:The ring members 5 made of material having a higher rate of thermal expansion than the bearing 3 and crankcases 1 and 2 forming the bearing housing is arranged, with interference, between the crankcases 1 and 2 and an outer ring 3a of the bearing 3. The ring member 5 is provided with radial projections 5a, 5b and 5c of which the projection 5c is provided opposite the projections 5a and 5b with respect to a crankshaft 16 and the split surfaces are formed between the projections 5a and 5b. Consequently, the ring member 5 is positioned by the projections 5a, 5b and 5c and the gap formed between the crankcases 1 and 2, and the bearing 3 due to a rise in temperature is compensated by the thermal expansion of the ring member.
