Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the sealing effect of a mechanical seal by forming outer higher shape of at least one sliding contacting surface of a seat ring and a driven ring.
CONSTITUTION: The outer peripheral side of the sliding contacting surface of a driven ring 10 is formed slightly projected axially from the inner peripheral side of the seat ring 9. Accordingly, it can enhance the sealing effect of the mechanical seal at stopping time of the driven ring 10, and even if the driven ring 10 is thermally deformed due to the frictional heat with the seat ring 9, it can make contact with the entire surface from the outer peripheral contact with the sliding contacting surface of the seat ring 9 to as to maintain high sealing effect. The same effect can also be obtained by forming outer higher shape of the seal ring 9.
