Abstract

PURPOSE:To indexing an index head at a predetermined angular position by providing a driving unit to a rotatable indexing head supporting a work on a pallet fitted to a machine tool by replacement in turn and by utilizing the revolution of a main spindle. CONSTITUTION:A work is fitted to an indexing head 9 on a pallet 1, and is indexed by a main spindle 30 through a coupled driving spindle 7. When indexing, first, an indexing tool 31 fitted to the main spindle 30 is inserted into a recessed section 6 of the coupled driving spindle 7. Next, the coupled driving spindle 7 is pressed through the main spindle 30 in the axial direction, and a pin 20 is lowered through a rack 3, a gear 16, and a spindle 17 so as to release rhe coupling between the pin 20 and a hole 23a. Next, the coupled driving spindle 7 is rotated through a main spindle 30 so as to indexing the index plate 9 at a predetermined angle through pulleys 8, 11, spindles 10, 14, and finally the main spindle 30 is moved backward, then the pin 20 is inserted into the predetermined hole 23a to complete the positioning.
