Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce windage loss of an energy-accumulating flywheel apparatus, by operating a magnetic thrust bearing in an evacuated space. CONSTITUTION:An upper sealing means 5 is disposed above a magnetic thrust bearing 6, which is disposed in an evacuated space together with a flywheel 1. The magnetic thrust bearing 6 is cooled directly by water by using an aperuted conductive member as the conductive member for an exciting coil of a stator. Thus, since a rotor unit is rotated in an evacuated space, its windage loss is eliminated and it is made unnecessary to cool the rotor especially. Therefore, it is enabled to reduce the windage loss to a great extent even if a fairly large- sized thrust bearing 6 is used, and hence to operate the apparatus at a high efficiency.
