Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the shape setting capacity by skin pass considerably by applying shearing force in the width direction of a strip just prior to skin pass by mill rolls, thereby making the strain distributions in the width direction roughly uniform in skin pass rolling. CONSTITUTION:A strip 1 is uncoiled with a pay-off reel 2, and is passed through a roller leveler 7 via pinch rolls 3. After it is fed into mill rolls 4 and is lightly rolled, it is again coiled by a tension reel 6 via a deflector roll 5. The leveler 7 consists of leveling rolls R having roll crowns formed with corrugations, which are so disposed that the crest and troughs of the waves of the upper roll crowns face the troughs and crests of the lower roll crowns respectively each other. If the strip 1 is passed through this leveler 7, the distributions in the residual strains are made uniform, the strain distributions in the width and longitudianl directions by skin pass are made uniform, and high flatness is given.
