Abstract
PURPOSE:To heighten the stability of gel of an alkaline battery and improve its storability, by using cross-linked etherealized starch as a gel-making agent for the cathode depolarizing mix of the battery. CONSTITUTION:3pts.wt. of cross-linked etherealized starch are mixed with an aqueous solution of forty per cent by weight of KOH. The mixture is stirred to prepare an electrolyte solution in a state of gel. 200pts.wt. of powder of amalgamated zinc are added to the electrolyte solution and they are mingled and kneaded together to prepare a paste-like cathode depolarizing mix to manufacture a button or cylinder-shpaed alkaline battery by a conventional method. Since the cross-linked ethereailized starch is used, the velocity of gelling is heightened to rationalize the manufacuturing process and the stability of the gel in the alkaline electrolyte solution is heightened to greatly improve the storability of the battery.
