Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve responsiveness at low temperature, by a method wherein, in a detector for oxygen concentration in exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine, a voltage with a frequncy, in which polarization of an AC component to a solid electrolyte consists of mainly polarization, is used, and a distance between electrodes is set to 0.5mm. or less. CONSTITUTION:Electrodes 2 and 3, made of platinum, are formed on both surfaces of a laminar solid electrolyte made of ZrO2, and a porous shielding layer 4 is formed on the electrode 3. A power source 5 with a frequency, in which polarization of an AC component consists of mainly polarization of a solid electrolyte, is connected between the electrodes 2 and 3, and a DC power source 7 and a DC voltage detector 8 are mounted. A distance between the electrodes of the solid electrolyte is set to 0.5mm. or less. This causes the electrode 3 to act as a reference electrode, the solid electrolyte to self-heat through application of an AC voltage, increases responsiveness at low temperature, and permits the improvement of a detecting precision.
