Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the height of a dry-type coke quenching apparatus and to attain size reduction of said apparatus, by suspending one by one the cooling gas injection into a plurality of chambers formed by partitioning a cooling tower and taking off a material from a chamber to which the cooling gas injection is suspended.
CONSTITUTION: Coke is fed to all of chambers 3 and 4, and cooling of the coke in these chambers is started by closing cutting gates 14 and 15 and gas sealing valves 16 and 17, and opening cooling gas switch valves 7 and 8. When a temp. at the bottom of a straight drum portion of the cooling tower 1 reaches about 250°C, cooling gas injection to one chamber 3 of a plurality of chambers 3 and 4 is suspended by closing the cooling gas switch valve 7, and the coke is taken off from the chamber 3 to which the cooling gas injection is suspended, by opening the cutting gate 14 and the gas sealing valve 16. The coke is discharged to a level at which a cylindrical blue is opened.
