Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the number of equipment used in a main circuit by a method wherein a high speed current reducing device for regeneration is also used as a chopper shortening switch when a vehicle is on a power run.
CONSTITUTION: When the vehicle is on a power run, cam switches P1 and P2 are closed and current supply to a motor M is controlled by a chopper CH. When the revolution of the motor M increases to cause the current flow rate through the chopper CH to approach 1, a chopper shortening command signal closes a high speed current reducing device or breaker L3. Application of a brake closes cam switches B1 and B2 and the motor current is regenerated into a load LW via the high speed current reducing device or breaker L3. A large currency due to unsuccessful commutation by the chopper CH at the time of regeneration is reduced by the opening of the high speed current reducing device or breaker L3.
