Measuring light is made incident to the irradiated place and the temperature is measured by detecting moduluated light emitted due to modulation of the light transmission characteristics. Further, e.g. a mirror 7 is provided in front of a light source 3 radiating ultraviolet rays 5 and also, a half mirror 8 is provided in front of a light source 4 emitting a measuring light 6 and then, both rays of light are made incident to a photochromic glass 1 in the same light passage by an optical transmission means 9 such as an optical fiber etc. Further, a modulated light 10 is transmitted to an ultraviolet ray cut filter 12 by an optical fiber 11 when the light 6 is modulated and only a visible light is made incident to a detector 13.
