Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce an org. compd. by Kolbe reaction in a low voltage by forming a gas and liquid permeable porous layer which does not act as an electrode on at least one surface of a cation exchange membrane segmenting an anode and a cathode. CONSTITUTION:A porous layer may be conductive or non-conductive, may be org. or inorg., is perferably hydrophilic, and is obtained by sticking a material selected from single substances and alloys of periodic table IVA group, IVB group, VB group, iron group metals, chromium, manganese, etc. on a cation exchange membrane. These materials are preferably of about 0.01-300mu grain sizes, and is used together with a binder and a thickener. The contents of the particles forming the porous layer are about 0.05-30mg/cm<2>. The porous layer to be formed on the membrane surface is of 10-99% porosity and 0.01-200mu thickness, and a fluorine-contg. polymer having sulfonic acid groups, carboxylic acid groups or phosphoric acid groups is used for the cation exchange membrane.
