Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the vibration of a sodium container and reinforce a sodium sulfur battery against a mechanical shock and vibration by providing a number of elastic lug pieces that are adjacent to the inner surface of a solid electrolyte at the lower part of the sodium container in a negative electrode chamber. CONSTITUTION:In a sodium-sulfur battery which uses fused sodium as a negative electrode active material, fused sulfur as a positive electrode active material, and a sodium ion conductive solid electrolyte as the electrolyte, a sodium container is inserted in a negative electrode chamber. A number of elastic lug pieces 8, 8', and 8'' which are spread upward or downward and turn inwards downward are provided at the lower part of this sodium container 6 and touch with the inner wall of the solid electrolyte. Since the upper part of this sodium container 6 is fixed in a negative electrode terminal using a guide pin 14 and the lower part is retained in the solid electrolyte using the elastic lug piece 8, the sodium container will not vibrate even when an external vibration or shock is applied, and the damage of the solid electrolyte is prevented.
