Abstract

PURPOSE:To maintain a required distance between both plates and facilitate the upward escape of gas during the charge of a battery, by inserting between the plates a spacer which is net-like, lattice-like, or perforated sheet-like formed body and which has also a portion making no contact with an isolating film and/or the plate, and then by isolating the plates. CONSTITUTION:Melting synthetic resin is subjected to a general molding method such as extruding, sheeting, or embossing, die-molding or the like in order to finarlly obtain a net-like spacer. Generally, gas is generated on the plate, in a lead storage battery, particularly during the charging process so the upward escape of this gas is required. Also, it is required to improve the diffusion of the electrolyte and reduce the change rate of the specific gravity of the electrolyte. For this reason, it is preferred that the spacer is a part of a linear body which forms a net-like shape and the spacer has such a part which is not in contact with the separating film and the plate. Through this non-contact part, the liquid or the generated gas is easily transferred upward and the diffusion and the escape can be easily carried out.
