Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a raw material far a carbonaceous product with excellent non-fusibility, carbonization yield, graphitizability and spinning properties suitable for a carbon fiber, active carbon, etc., by thermally treating a depolymerized coal product followed by extraction with a hydrocarbon solvent and removing the solvent from the residue and filtrate.
CONSTITUTION: Coal crushed to a suitable particle size and a hydrocarbon solvent are mixed in a wt. ratio of 1:1W10 and depolymerized under hydrogen pressure of 3W300kg/cm2 at 300W500°C for 30W240min. Then undissolved coal is removed and the solvent is removed by distilling filtrate under reduced pressure to obtain a depolymerized coal product of an O/C atomic ratio 0.01W0.07. After being thermally treated at 400W450°C for 10minW10hr to yeidl 20W80wt% residue by extraction, the product is crushed to an adequate particle size, mixed with a hydrocarbon solvent in a wt. ratio of 1:3W10 and dissolved in the solvent in an inert gas atmosphere at a temp. of 100°CW b.p. of the solvent. After removal of the residue, a reformed depolymerized coal product is obtd. by recovering the solvent from the obtd. filtrate.
