Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent workpiece from jetting, rippling and to breaking and increase an operating efficiency, by controlling tension of the workpiece on a continuous vacuum treating unit in which the workpiece is processed between feed and feed-off rolls.
CONSTITUTION: A tensiometer 19 consisting of a bearing unit 21 which moves up and down (23 indicates a spring) and is equipped with a differential transformer 22 and a detector 20 attached thereto, is used to monitor the tension of workpiece. Workpiece F (e.g. plastic film) delivered from a feeding unit 9 is processed in a vacuum chamber 1 before it is taken up onto a wind-up unit 9. The tensiometer 19 is installed between vacuum treating chamber 1 and preliminary vacuum chamber 3 and the number of revolution of seal roll in the preliminary chamber is controlled to an optimum value with an infinitely variable gear 14 by using signals from the differential transformer 22 obtained by monitoring the tension of running workpiece F.
