Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform accurate calking work with high efficiency, by induction- heating a metal tip with a coil wound round the tip, pressing the heated tip to the head of the boss of a workpiece, to be calked, to crush the head, and then introducing a cooling medium into the tip. CONSTITUTION:A base (a) and a plastic member (b), as a workpiece to be calked, are lapped together in a manner such that the boss (c) of the plastic member (b) is inserted through the through hole (d) of the base (a) and that the head of the boss projects beyond the base (a). Under this condition, the base and the plastic member are mounted on a receiving stand 1. A heated metal tip 4 is then pressed from the upside to the boss to calk the boss head. In this case, a high-frequency electric current is applied to a coil 11 wound round the tip 4 to heat the tip 4 with an induction current, the head (e) of the boss (c) is pressed and crushed by the top end 5 of the tip 4, and then a cooling fluid is introduced into the tip 4 to cool the tip 4 and to solidify the crushed head (e) of the boss (c).
